Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez is on the list of candidates to replace the recently-sacked Spain manager Julen Lopetegui.
The Northern Echo claims that the former Real Madrid boss is under consideration.
The Spanish Football Federation have taken the bold decision to sack Lopetegui just one day before the World Cup kicks off.
The news follows the confirmation that Lopetegui will be taking over at Real Madrid this summer.
Following the announcement, there has been contrasting reports about Lopetegui’s future with the Spanish national team, but his departure has now been confirmed.
This is not the first time Benitez has been linked with the Spain job. He was a target for the national team when Vicente del Bosque left his post back in 2016.
Lopetegui’s departure will throw fresh doubt over Benitez’s immediate future with Newcastle.
Benitez has been linked with moves away from St James’ Park following the difficult relationship he has endured with Mike Ashley.
