Newcastle United have made a bid for Lille star Thiago Maia, according to reports.
Lille had a very disappointing season, barely managing to escape relegation from Ligue 1 and as such, they are keen to keep hold of their best players. Therefore, they’ve reportedly knocked back Newcastle’s bid.
The Magpies have apparently been keeping tabs on the 21-year-old for some time and they are expected to go back in with a new bid in an attempt to force Lille’s hand.

The defensive midfielder played 34 Ligue games for Lille last year and is a key member of their first team, so Newcastle might need to increase their bid significantly if they want to get their man.
The Brazilian U23 international won a gold medal at the 2016 Olympics and at the time, he was linked to a number of sides across Europe, but Lille swooped in to secure a deal to sign him.
