Newcastle remain keen on a move for Sporting CP striker Bas Dost, with the forward apparently growing keen to exit the Portuguese club.
Dost was one of several players to be attacked at the club’s training ground by a set of fans after they finished third in the league and reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League. The 29-year-old required stitches afterwards, as he sustained some nasty head wounds.
According to a report from Dutch news outlet AD, a transfer could be on the cards for the Netherlands international, with Newcastle supposedly joined by Sevilla and Everton in the race for his signature.
Dost scored 33 goals in 45 appearances for Sporting last season and is apparently rated highly by Magpies boss Rafa Benitez.
It was reported that Newcastle offered around £40m for the striker’s services last summer, but the bid was rejected. These reports were somewhat speculative, however, with the Benitez having been allocated limited finances since his arrival at St James’ Park.
But now, with the Lisbon giants in turmoil, a bid of that kind would surely be too good to turn down.
