Mikel Merino may be on the verge of leaving Newcastle United.
He has previously been linked to Athletic Club Bilbao due to his Basque background, and Bilbao being a Spanish club that only signs Basque players, but the deal fell through.
However AS are now reporting that La Liga side Real Betis are willing to do anything to sign the midfielder.
The 21-year-old has been valued at €10m by the media in Spain but it seems unlikely that Newcastle would sell him for so cheap when he has four years left on his contract.
Despite the situation, Newcastle are reportedly going to negotiate with Real Betis and try to agree on a fee for the player to return to his homeland.
Merino featured in 25 games for Newcastle this season but has repeatedly been linked with a move back to Spain.
