Newcastle are on the look out for a new central defender following the season’s end, after boss Rafa Benitez refused to use the out-of-favour Chancel Mbemba, according to Sport Witness.
The Toon defence was pretty solid during the campaign, but when forced to deal with injuries throughout the season, there did appear to be some weaknesses on show.
One player which the Magpies are reportedly looking to bring to St James’ Park is Christophe Herelle from Troyes. After a number of fine performances in France, the defender has also attracted strong interest in him from around Europe.

Newcastle finished 10th in the Premier League this season and if they are to really kick on then they need to bring in top quality names to boost their ranks ahead of another big season at the club.
The Frenchman has featured in 33 of his side’s 37 league games and has played a vital role in keeping them away from the relegation mix in Ligue 1.
