Newcastle open talks over deal for PSG stopper
Newcastle United are reportedly in talks with PSG over a potential summer deal for Alphonse Areola.
The goalkeeper was wanted by the Magpies last summer but the club failed to close a deal, with Areola remaining with the Ligue 1 giants for the 2017/18 campaign.
Newcastle signed Martin Dubravka on loan in the January transfer window to remedy their goalkeeping issues and the experienced shot-stopper has duly delivered. It’s thought that the Magpies want to tie Dubravka down to a permanent deal, however, it seems Areola is once again a target.
France Football, as cited by GFFN, claim that PSG will not let Areola go cheaply this summer, though. The winners of Ligue 1 will reportedly demand a sum of €20m from potential suitors if they are to offload their impressive goalkeeper.
Areola is still an important player for PSG, but the allure of Premier League football and playing under Rafa Benitez appears to be a tempting prospect for the 25-year-old.
