Newcastle Player Ratings: Tottenham Hotspur (A)

Harry Kane scored the only goal of the game to condemn Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle to a fourth successive league defeat at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday.

Kane’s goal came after a good one-two with winger Heung-min Son, who set up the target man on the edge of the box to smash the ball into the top-right corner – 50 minutes in.

Newcastle had the better opportunities in the first half; Jonjo Shelvey curled a 19-yard free-kick off the post and Jamaal Lascelles’ header forced Hugo Lloris into a good diving-save.

Harry Kane had Spurs’ best opportunity of the first period when the England striker remarkably miscued a volleyed effort from inside the area whilst one-on-one with Martin Dubravka, much to the relief of the Magpies goalkeeper.

Newcastle pushed to grab an equaliser in the second period but failed to do so; the visitors’ best chance came when substitute Jacob Murphy bared down on goal from the left-flank but skied his effort over Lloris’ bar.

Ahead of this weekend’s final Premier League fixtures, the Magpies sit 10th in the table and play Chelsea at St James’ Park on Sunday.

Below are the Newcastle player ratings from their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
