Newcastle have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres.
According to Spanish outlet AS, via TeamTalk, Celtic and the Magpies could be set to battle it out for Torres this summer.
The report claims that Torres has already confirmed his intentions for the summer and has admitted that he will be leaving Atletico at the end of the season.
This opens the door for Newcastle to swoop in and snap up the former Liverpool and Chelsea striker.
Torres was rated as one of the best strikers in Europe during his days with Liverpool, before his £50m move to Chelsea.
However, he failed to make the desired impact at Stamford Bridge, and ended up moving to a number of clubs before settling back at Atletico – where he started his career.
If Newcastle were to make a move the allure of Premier League football and the chance to work under Rafa Benitez again could be major attractions to the Spaniard..
