Newcastle planning surprise move for Ligue 1 stopper

Newcastle United are reportedly planning an audacious swoop for Toulouse goalkeeper Alban Lafont.

According to a report from French news outlet L’Equipe, the Magpies are one of several clubs to have expressed an interest in signing the youngster, who has emerged as one of the brightest talents in Ligue 1.

Lafont burst into the first-team picture at the tender age of 16 and has since been a mainstay in the Toulouse side. He has been in impressive form this season and his stock is only continuing to rise.

Newcastle have long been on the lookout for a new goalkeeper who can retain a starting berth for years to come but have struggled to recruit a reliable shot stopper in recent times. Although, loanee goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is certainly showing signs of promise since his January move.

19-year-old Lafont is a highly coveted young player, who is being chased by top clubs around Europe, such as Napoli.
