Newcastle took a big step towards Premier League survival with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Southampton.

It only took 63 seconds for Newcastle to take the lead, with on loan Kenedy putting his half volley past Saints keeper Alex McCarthy to give the Toon an early lead.

The full back then made in two only twenty minutes later. The Brazilian took advantage of a good counter attack too get Newcastle’s second, adding to Southampton’s woes as they linger around the bottom of the table.

Matt Ritchie wrapped up the points for the Toon, steering his shot into the net from twenty yards, giving Newcastle the win.

The result takes Newcastle to 32 points, five points clear of the drop zone. It also leaves Southampton just one point off the bottom three, as both teams attempt to avoid relegation.
