Newcastle star faces race to be fit for Liverpool game

Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is facing a battle to be back in time for his side’s next game against Liverpool this weekend, according to Daily Mail reporter Craig Hope.

Shelvey was forced off with a serious looking injury at the weekend but it looks as though he could well win the battle to be ready for game.

The Newcastle midfielder has featured in 23 first team games this season but has only scored one goal so far this season. He has played a key role, though, when called upon.

There is a worry that the injury may be a longer term one which would come at a bad time for all parties involved. He has also been receiving some injections relating to his groin strain.

If the club are to avoid the drop this season, then they will definitely need Shelvey to be at his best for the run-in.

If he can come back to the side and put in some performances, then he could force his way into Gareth Southgate’s England squad ahead of this summer’s World Cup.
