Newcastle United claimed a much needed three points yesterday over Manchester United in a 1-0 win. and club captain Jamaal Lascelles has said that the Manchester United players “went missing” during the game, in a report by the London Evening Standard.
The Magpies were in the bottom three prior to their match but ended the day out of it thanks to Matt Ritchie’s first goal of the season in the second-half.
Lascelles has played a crucial role for his side so far this season and was instrumental in the brilliant defensive performance from the Magpies this weekend.
He will need to be at his best between now and the end of the season if his side are to end the season out of the bottom three and avoid an instant return to the Championship.
The captain didn’t hold back with his comments after the game.
They have got some great players, but I don’t think United turned up. We have played against Arsenal and Man City and you can really see the quality and one mistake or a lack of concentration and a goal will go in.
He continued by adding:
I don’t think they were at it from the start of the game – a lot of their players went missing. It was probably the way we were playing, we made them play like that.
In the first-half they were making a lot of mistakes, passing the ball around but it was down to our pressing. We were aggressive, and they didn’t like it.
