Newcastle complete deal for Slimani

Newcastle United have completed the loan signing of Islam Slimani from Leicester City on deadline day.

Slimani, 29, joins the Magpies until the end of the season after scoring once in his 12 Premier League appearances for his parent club so far this campaign.

The Algerian international joined Leicester from Sporting Lisbon in 2016, however, has failed to nail down a regular starting spot in the side during his 18 months with the Foxes.

Rafael Benitez has been desperate to add to his attacking options this window, and will be delighted the club have secured Slimani’s services until the end of the season.

Slimani’s last involvement for Leicester came in the FA Cup replay against Fleetwood two weeks ago.

The forward wasn’t involved in the Leicester side that defeated Newcastle at St James Park back in December, and the player will be ineligible to face his parent club when the two sides meet at the beginning of April.
