Newcastle agree a deal with Crewe for their defender

Crewe have completed the loan signing of Newcastle United defender Jamie Sterry this evening as reported by the Official Crewe website.

The Newcastle youngster has featured just five times in the senior team during his career with his debut coming against Tottenham back in 2016.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez thinks of the player highly and sees him having a long-term future with the club following the loan deal.

Sterry had a loan at Coventry City last season where he impressed and has got a great opportunity to enhance his growing reputation with this move.

The 22-year-old has for the most part this season played in the club’s under 23 side, putting in a host of fine performances, including in a win against the side he’s joining – Crewe – in the EFL trophy.

He could be involved this weekend as Crewe face high flying Notts County in an important League Two fixture.
