Newcastle have reportedly approached Manchester City over a potential loan move for Eliaquim Mangala.
According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies have asked City about the Frenchman’s availability as they aim to tie up a late signing in the January transfer window.
Newcastle have been left frustrated often this month, with targets such as Daniel Sturridge opting to snub them in favour of moves elsewhere.
However, it seems they’re looking to recruit Mangala to aid them in their pursuit of Premier League survival this season, as Rafa Benitez looks to bolster his back line.

Newcastle’s funds are limited, though, and a deal for Mangala could be difficult to conclude, even on a temporary basis. It’s stated by the Daily Mail that the ex-Porto man earns £80,000 per week at Manchester City, and they would like the Magpies to cover the majority of the cost if they are to land the defender on loan.
Mangala is likely to be pushed even further down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium following the arrival of Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao.
