Newcastle are battling a host of La Liga clubs for Real Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente’s signature, according to Spanish news outlet AS.
The youngster is held in high esteem at Real but is not receiving sufficient game time under Zinedine Zidane this season, prompting claims that he could leave the club on loan.
Llorente has impressed when called upon for Spain’s Under-21 side. He enjoyed a hugely successful season on loan at Deportivo Alaves last term and established himself as one of Real’s most exciting young prospects.
However, first-team game time has been limited in the 2017/18 campaign and, if AS are to be believed, Newcastle and Deportivo La Coruna are leading the race to land Llorente on loan until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old is primarily a defensive midfielder and would add further depth to Rafa Benitez’s options in the middle, if he is to secure his compatriot’s services.
Real Betis are also being linked with a move for Llorente, while Alaves are also stated to be keen on taking him on loan again.
