Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is holding off on any contract talks with the club until the end of the January window.
The Times reports that the club want the Spaniard to extend his stay at St James’ Park.
The Magpies have once again hit the headlines during the transfer window for all the wrong reasons.
A lack of transfer funds and communication between both Benitez and owner Mike Ashley have seen the club fall behind in the transfer market.
Ashley has been coy on any investment with talk of a takeover bid still rumbling on in the background.
There had originally been hope that the takeover could have been resolved in time to allow Benitez the necessary funds to improve the squad in January.
Benitez has seen himself become a huge part of any potential takeover bid, with new parties looking to keep him in charge for the long-term.
The 57-year-old currently has 18 months left on his deal at the club.
