# Montpellier agree loan deal with Newcastle for Saivet

Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier have reportedly agreed a loan deal with Newcastle for Henri Saivet.

The midfielder is out of favour at St James’ Park and, according to leading French news outlet [L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Montpellier-avance-sur-henri-saivet-newcastle/867699), he is set to make a return to Ligue 1 for the remainder of the season.

It’s stated in the report that should Montpellier be impressed with Saivet’s efforts upon his arrival in France, they will have an option to sign him on a permanent basis at the end of the season for a fee in the region of £4.4 million.

Rafa Benitez is looking to recruit in January but it seems he is also keen to offload any fringe players, as he aims to make room on the wage bill for potential incomings.

Saivet has failed to live up to expectations since his move from Bordeaux and it would come as no surprise to see him make the return to France.
