Newcastle United will travel to Stoke City on New Year’s Day knowing that nothing less than a win will do.
The Magpies haven’t been playing too badly recently but have severely lacked cutting edge. This was only further reinforced by their recent 0-0 draw against Brighton, with a lack of quality proving to be Newcastle’s downfall.
Stoke, though, are in a bad position too. Much like Newcastle, they are in serious danger this season and the pressure will be on them to perform in front of their home fans. They head into the game following a 5-0 thumping at the hands of Chelsea on Saturday.
It’s a huge game for both sides and it’s sure to be an intriguing encounter. Rafa Benitez will need to get this one spot on, with Newcastle able to climb up to 13th with a win.
