According to Sport Witness, Genoa’s Diego Laxalt could be available at a cut-price deal in January.
The report claims that Newcastle were interested in Laxalt in the summer as a replacement for Achraf Lazaar.
Lazaar was looking for a new club after failing to impress for the Magpies in a season that saw them snatch the Championship title off of Brighton on the last day. When Lazaar found a new club, Newcastle wanted a winger that was talented enough to help Newcastle stay up in the Premier League.
Laxalt is a left midfielder, naturally, but he can play at left-back and further up the pitch. He was linked with a move away from Genoa for a good sum of money over the summer transfer window. However, Newcastle failed to sign the young talent and he remained at Genoa this season.
Laxalt’s contract runs out in the summer and there is a chance that Newcastle can pick up the South American for a reasonable price.

Newcastle are desperate for more players as they are currently sitting in the relegation zone having lost 1-0 to Arsenal with Crystal Palace and West Ham picking up three points on the weekend. This could be the ideal time to return to their summer target as they are struggling for creative inspiration going forward.
Laxalt is very versatile as he is able to play in various positions which would be useful for Rafa Benitez in what is sure to be a long second half of the season for the Magpies.
The 24-year-old has made seventeen appearances this season scoring twice and assisting once which is one more goal that Christian Atsu has managed this season and a whole lot more than summer signing Jacob Murphy, who is yet to impress at ST. James Park. This is a player worth thinking about if Newcastle are to dig themselves out of trouble.
