Jamaal Lascelles trying hard in bid to return to action

Jamaal Lascelles has been talking to the media about his injury and when he hopes to be back in action for Newcastle United.

The defender has been out for more than a month with an ankle injury, suffered in the 1-0 home defeat of Bournemouth, with the captain coming off a long time before the stoppage time winner.

Since then, he has missed the clash at Old Trafford, the Watford game at home, the comeback at West Brom and the loss at Stamford Bridge.

Without Lascelles, the Toon have only picked up one point from four games. Up next on Saturday is Leicester City, who have lost one of their last ten games, and that was to Manchester City.

Prior to the injury, the former Nottingham Forest man had played every minute of the Premier League season apart from seven, coming off as part of a late substitute in the first game at home to Tottenham.

Speaking to the media, Lascelles said (via Shields Gazette):

I trained for the first time this week… I’ll see how I get on.

I’m trying hard to get back as soon as possible, and fingers crossed it can be Saturday

So the captain hopes to return this weekend to another packed out St. James’ Park. He will certainly bring more organisation to the defence and will help the rotten run of no clean sheet since the Crystal Palace win.

matchday.
