Newcastle United Player Ratings: Chelsea (A)

Antonio Conte’s Chelsea secured a 3-1 win against Newcastle on Saturday, to condemn the Magpies to their 5th defeat in six games.

Newcastle snatched the lead within 12 minutes. Thibaut Courtois dived in to clear the ball off the toes of Ayoze Perez, only for Dwight Gayle to pick up the pieces and slot comfortably into the open goal.

Chelsea responded with non-stop pressure, and their resilience paid off in the 21st minute. Florian Lejeune carried out a flying interception, but the ball fell to Eden Hazard, who slammed the ball into the ground and over Karl Darlow.

The hosts then doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark. Victor Moses capitalised on Matt Ritchie’s stray header and fired in a cross towards Alvaro Morata who headed home from four yards.

Ritchie was again the culprit as Chelsea added a third. The Scotland international brought down Victor Moses inside the area, only for Kevin Friend to point to the spot. Eden Hazard then made no mistake to score the penalty, sending Karl Darlow the wrong way.

Take a look at our Newcastle player ratings from the disappointing defeat.
