Newcastle United are reportedly plotting an audacious swoop for Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.
According to Spanish news outlet El Gol Digital, as covered in a news round-up from the Chronicle, the Magpies are interested in signing the Netherlands international in the near future.
Cillessen has struggled for game time at Barcelona since his move from Ajax, with Germany international Marc-Andre Ter Stegen being favoured as the first choice goalkeeper.
It is because of this that Cillessen is angling for a January move, if El Gol are to be believed, and Newcastle are seemingly waiting in the wings for the Dutchman.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has reportedly been looking to land a new goalkeeper in the recent few months. Rob Elliot has been performing well, but a quality first choice shot-stopper remains on the agenda, it seems.
Cillessen has not yet played a single game in La Liga for Barcelona, and is understandably frustrated with his role.
