# Newcastle target Praet to have €20m summer release clause

Newcastle’s interest in Sampdoria midfielder Dennis Praet has been well documented over the course of the last few months.

The Magpies are claimed to have held a strong desire to sign the Belgian during the summer transfer window, but the Italian side refused to part company with the playmaker.

According to Italian news outlet [Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/exclusive-newcastle-can-sign-sampdoria-star-on-one-condition-86902), the former Anderlecht man will be unable to leave the club in January, crushing any hope Newcastle had of landing him in the mid-season transfer window.

However, the exclusive report does state rather interestingly that, as of the summer of 2018, Praet will have a €20m release clause in his contract at Sampdoria.

If Newcastle are to meet the midfielder’s release clause, they will be free to discuss terms ahead of what would be a relatively big-money move by the club’s financial standards.

Praet has been in good form for Sampdoria this season, and has been impressing in Serie A with some industrious performances.
