Newcastle’s interest in Sampdoria midfielder Dennis Praet has been well documented over the course of the last few months.
The Magpies are claimed to have held a strong desire to sign the Belgian during the summer transfer window, but the Italian side refused to part company with the playmaker.
According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato, the former Anderlecht man will be unable to leave the club in January, crushing any hope Newcastle had of landing him in the mid-season transfer window.

However, the exclusive report does state rather interestingly that, as of the summer of 2018, Praet will have a €20m release clause in his contract at Sampdoria.
If Newcastle are to meet the midfielder’s release clause, they will be free to discuss terms ahead of what would be a relatively big-money move by the club’s financial standards.
Praet has been in good form for Sampdoria this season, and has been impressing in Serie A with some industrious performances.
