Newcastle United have been closely monitoring the Bundesliga, according to the Chronicle.
It’s stated that the Magpies are taking inspiration from their recent success with the loan move of Mikel Merino to further their interest in the German top flight, in the belief that signings of a similar kind could be available to them.
Newcastle secured Merino on an initial season-long loan from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.

The young Spaniard has started the season in impeccable fashion, and the Magpies have been quick to act on this, tying him down on a permanent basis just a few months after borrowing him from Peter Bosz’s side.
Rafa Benitez is undoubtedly keen to bolster his Newcastle squad when the January transfer window opens, with him considering the club’s dealings as unfinished business from the summer.
It looks as though some players from the Bundesliga could be considered, following extensive scouting of the league.
