Newcastle midfielder Mikel Merino has enjoyed an incredible start to life in England, and is already attracting the interest of several top European clubs, if reports are to be believed.
The Magpies landed the young Spaniard on a season-long loan initially from Borussia Dortmund in the summer. However, they exercised their option to make the deal permanent earlier on this month, with Merino’s start to the campaign impressing many.
According to a report from Italian news outlet Calciomercato, Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been impressed by Merino.
The 21-year-old came through the youth ranks at Osasuna before making his move to Dortmund. Merino struggled to secure regular game time in the Bundesliga and therefore sought a move away.
However, it looks as though a big move could be on the horizon for him once more in the coming years, as the two Spanish heavyweights compete for his signature.
Merino has scored one goal for Newcastle this season, and has established himself as a fans’ favourite already.
