Newcastle United are looking to make Mikel Merino’s loan deal at the club permanent, according to the Newcastle Chronicle.
The 21-year-old has been in fine form since arriving in the summer transfer window, and is fast becoming a fans’ favourite amongst the St James’ Park faithful.
Merino was struggling to break into Borussia Dortmund’s first-team last season, and sought a loan move for the 2017/18 campaign. Newcastle were more than willing to give the Spaniard the opportunity to shine, and he has grabbed his chance with both hands.

It’s claimed in the report that the Magpies intend to make their move for Merino on a permanent basis when the January transfer window, as they aim to secure his services beyond the ongoing campaign.
Merino made just eight appearances for Bundesliga giants Dortmund after having joined in 2016, and evidently believed that consistent first-team football this season was imperative for his own progress.
