Newcastle were heavily linked with a move for Turkey international Cenk Tosun throughout the course of the summer transfer window.
The Magpies had already added Joselu to the ranks in order to add more firepower for Rafa Benitez to choose from. However, reports suggested that Dwight Gayle was up for sale at the right price, and links with Tosun continued to surface.
It has since been revealed that only the timing of Crystal Palace’s move for the Besiktas man meant that a transfer to Selhurst Park didn’t take place, but this hasn’t influenced Tosun’s thinking – he’s keen to play in the Premier League.

Speaking to ESPN about what the future may hold, Tosun admitted that a key ambition of his is to represent his country in the English game, opening the door to a move to Newcastle or Palace despite the broken down move from the summer.
I am really happy at Besiktas but like Arda Turan and Nuri Sahin I want to be an ambassador for Turkey abroad. I am keen on playing in England.
I am really pleased with the interest being shown from the Premier League sides mentioned. It really is an honour and we will discuss my future with the club president at the end of the season.
