Newcastle offered £6m for Cape Verde international Rodrigues
Sport Witness claims that Newcastle United made a £6m bid for Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues in the last transfer window and which was turned down.
Manager Rafa Benitez had been impressed by the player’s start at the Turkish giants, but, the bid was turned down in the closing stages of the window.
Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek asked his board about the bid and they believed that Rodrigues was an important part of the squad, therefore, he needs to stay at the club.
The manager Igor Tudor and CEO Cenk Ergun agreed with the board and rejected Newcastle’s approach.
Newcastle United scouts were impressed by Rodrigues after Galatasaray beat Osmanlıspor last month and decided to pursue the player as a result.
Rodrigues has made a great start to his time at Galatasaray helping the club to pick up maximum points from the opening three games.
The Cape Verde international joined Galatasaray from PAOK for €3.5m from PAOK.
