Benitez could miss trip to Swansea after having operation

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez could miss his side’s trip to Swansea City this weekend as he is recovering from an operation.

As reported by Martin Hardy of the Independent, the Spaniard went under the knife to remove an infection that had been bothering him for some time.

The 57-year-old had a hernia operation two years ago but he’s had issues with that ever since and during the international break, he had further surgery in Cheshire to remove an infection.

Ever the football obsessive, Benitez chose to go into hospital during the international break so he would be fine to manage the club’s next game but, according to Hardy, the severity of the infection has resulted in him missing Newcastle’s training all week.

He was scheduled to be back at the club yesterday but has been unable to attend training and as such, there is no a concern that he won’t be fit enough to travel to Wales this weekend.
