On-loan Newcastle United midfielder Mikel Merino has opened up about the chances of joining the club permanently next summer.
Merino joined the club on loan from Borussia Dortmund and the Premier League outfit hold the option to make the deal permanent.
The Spanish midfielder has been touted as one of the more shrewd pieces of business this summer.
In a very honest interview with Goal, as reported by the Chronicle Live, Merino admits he is undecided about his future beyond this season.
It’s a loan with a buyout option for Newcastle. We’ll see how the season progresses and how it all goes. At the moment, what I am thinking is to improve and grow individually as a footballer, because I still have a lot of room to grow. That’s what I’m up to now.
Merino himself has had an impressive start to the season, but the Magpies will be hoping to kick on after the international break.
Rafa Benitez’s men picked up their first three points of the campaign by beating West Ham 3-0 at St James’ Park.
