Newcastle United made an enquiry to sign AC Milan forward M’Baye Niang on Wednesday as they try to strengthen late in the transfer window.
Gazzetta dello Sport, as cited on Sport Witness reported that the Magpies have been following the 22-year-old forward since 2013, but, when making the enquiry, the club did not get the answer they wanted.
The French U21 striker declined the chance to work with Rafa Benitez and has made it clear that he wants to join Torino.
Everton also looked to buy the forward, however, this enquiry was also declined.
Niang spent last season on loan at Premier League side Watford, but, his poor run of form has put him off the idea of joining a Premier League club permanently.
Newcastle are looking to find a replacement forward with Marseille interested in Aleksandar Mitrovic and Fulham looking to sign Dwight Gayle.
However, it looks like the club’s search for a forward is going to be up to the wire on deadline day with Niang turning down a chance to join the Magpies.
