# Newcastle interested in Southampton midfielder

Newcastle United are reportedly taking a keen interest in Southampton midfielder Jordy Clasie.

The Netherlands international is up for sale at Saints, and according to a report from the [Southern Daily Echo](https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/15501571.Claise_could_make_Saints_exit/?ref=rss) this morning, the Magpies are among the clubs interested in landing him.

Rafa Benitez is far from finished in the transfer window and will be keen to add further reinforcements before the deadline tomorrow night.

Clasie has only ever really been a sporadic feature in Saints’ team, failing to nail down a starting place under all of Ronald Koeman, Claude Puel and Mauricio Pellegrino.

The former Feyenoord man has struggled to adapt to the league’s physicality and has also been unfortunate with injury woes.

However, given Newcastle’s lack of Premier League experience and quality in the middle, Clasie could be a worthwhile addition for Benitez as he looks to bolster his side.

Clasie is yet to make an appearance for Saints this season.
