# Newcastle and Watford considering late Slimani swoop

Leicester City are looking to offload Islam Slimani this summer, and it looks as though Newcastle United have not given up on landing him.

According to the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/transfer-news-live-coutinho-dembele-10911739?service=responsive) today, the Magpies are considering a late swoop for the Algerian international, who is also being courted by Watford in the final week of the window.

The Foxes are keen to recoup a considerable portion of the £29m fee they splashed on Slimani last summer. He has failed to live up to expectations since his move from Sporting CP but has shown glimpses of quality in his short tenure with Leicester so far.

Rafa Benitez is keen to add more star quality to the ranks before the window slams shut at the end of the month, and Slimani would certainly provide a different dimension to his attacking options.

Aleksandar Mitrovic has been subject to a few loan offers, and a move for Slimani could see a shake-up in Benitez’s attacking firepower in the coming days.
