Newcastle’s intention to sign star quality has been well documented throughout the course of the summer transfer window.
Rafa Benitez has already voiced his frustrations at the club’s failure to secure top targets, but according to reports in Italy, as cited by the Daily Mail today, they are not yet giving up hope of signing Inter Milan striker Stevan Jovetic this summer.
Jovetic is looking unlikely to get too much first-team action under Luciano Spalletti this season, but is also understood to not be overly enthused about a return to English football. This would be his second stint in the Premier League, following an unsuccessful spell with Manchester City.
The 27-year-old spent last season on loan with La Liga outfit Sevilla. Although he didn’t quite live up to expectations, he did manage to net on six occasions.
Inter are thought to be welcome to bids of over €17 million; a price that should be affordable for the Magpies.
