# Newcastle set to end pursuit of Inter striker

Newcastle were being linked with a somewhat audacious swoop for Inter Milan striker Stevan Jovetic last week.

The Montenegro international appears to have fallen out of favour at the San Siro, with Luciano Spalletti favouring other options instead of him in recent times.

Newcastle were claimed to be holding a strong interest in the former Manchester City man, but the player wasn’t reciprocating the same interest, as he waited to see if he has a future at Inter.

Now, according to a report from Corriere della Sera, as cited by [talkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/transfer-blow-newcastle-united-abort-pursuit-former-manchester-city-striker-stevan-jovetic), Jovetic has rejected the chance to join forces with Rafa Benitez.

Newcastle have already recruited a striker – Joselu from Stoke City – this summer, but appear to be on the lookout for more star quality despite having a lot of options up top.

The Magpies do seem to hold an interest in Sampdoria midfielder Dennis Praet, though, and are confident of tying up a deal for the Belgian.
