# Haidara rejects Saint-Etienne contract

Newcastle defender Massadio Haidara has rejected a move to Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne.

According to [L’Equipe, via Sport Witness,](https://sportwitness.co.uk/newcastle-defender-turns-chance-get-football-not-happy-wages/) Haidara was set to sign for Saint-Etienne and even completed an extensive medical for the French side.

However, it is now claimed that Haidara has rejected Saint-Etienne’s contract offer and that the deal is now dead.

There have been some suggestions that there were issues with the medical, but the overall view appears to be that Haidara was unwilling to sign a deal with Saint-Etienne.

The report claims that he is not looking for a move to France and is looking forward to playing in the Premier League with Newcastle next season.

Newcastle were promoted to the English top-flight last season after winning the Championship at the first time of asking.

Haidara only made three appearances in that time and is thought to be on his way out of the club this summer.
