# Newcastle join clubs in the race to sign German international

Newcastle, Watford and Stoke are all battling for the signature of Spartak Moscow’s Serdar Tasci.

The [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/watford-target-aaron-lennon-abdennour-10896461) reports that three clubs are all interested in signing the defender this summer.

The 30-year-old has 15 senior caps for Germany and returned to Spartak Moscow last season after a disappointing spell with Bayern Munich.

Tasci joined Munich on loan to provide cover at the back for the German champions and made just three appearances for the club.

Watford have identified the player as a back up in case their deal to sign Aymen Abdennour either permanently or on a season-long loan from Valencia falls through.

Stoke are also in the market for a central defender with their pursuit of Bruno Martins still unsolved.

The defender spent last season on loan at Stoke, who had the option of buying him permanently, but despite not utilising that option, remain interested in the player.
