Confirmation of the signing was released on Newcastle’s twitter feed and the Spanish under-21 midfielder who made just nine appearances last season has joined [Premier League](https://readpl.com/) side Newcastle in order to gain game-time.

The talented young central-midfielder also featured for Spain in their U21 Euro’s, where they finished runners-up to Germany.

Newcastle also secured the signings of Jacob Murphy and Javier Manquillo last week alone as they look to improve their side that won the Championship last season.

[Dortmund](https://readbundesliga.com/) only signed Merino at the start of last season as a youth prospect but already he needs regular game-time to improve his game, fulfilling his great potential. Now, the 21-year-old has spoke on their website about his excitement to be a Newcastle player:

“It feels good and I’m very happy to be here, to be part of this club. I’m looking forward to touching the ball, meeting my new team-mates and starting to play football.”

He also added: “I know it’s a great club and a really nice city. I had different options but I think this is the right place for me to play.”
