# Newcastle reportedly move closer to signing Benfica star

Reports in Portugal today have suggested that Newcastle are edging ever closer to the signing of Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris.

According to newspaper O Jogo, as cited by [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/newcastle-united-agree-personal-terms-offer-e2-5m-per-season-tax-fee-close/), the Magpies are closing in on a compromised deal with the Portuguese giants, and have agreed personal terms with Samaris himself.

Newcastle have been linked with a move for the Greek international for some time now, and it looks as though they have stepped up their apparent interest in the midfielder.

Samaris reportedly has an offer worth €2.5m per year on the table from Newcastle, which is a significant increase on his current income at Benfica. So, inevitably, the player appears to be keen on the move to England.

Although a fee doesn’t appear to be agreed between the two clubs just yet, it’s likely that a deal can be struck for around €15m along with additional bonuses for the 28-year-old’s signature this summer.
