Newcastle are reportedly preparing to step up their efforts to sign Everton midfielder James McCarthy, and Bleacher Report’s Dean Jones has claimed that a bid could be lodged soon.

McCarthy is surplus to requirements at Goodison Park, with Ronald Koeman already having a plethora of midfield options at his disposal.
However, Rafa Benitez is keen to bolster his reinforcements in the middle of the park, and appears to have identified McCarthy as a genuine target for the Magpies this summer.
It’s been reported previously that the Toffees value the Republic of Ireland international at a huge price of £25m. This is a valuation that Newcastle are unlikely to meet, and understandably so.
However, with Koeman seemingly prepared to offload the Irishman this summer, a compromise could be reached.
Newcastle have been heavily linked with the signing of Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris, too.
