Newcastle are reportedly keen to land Everton midfielder James McCarthy this summer.
According to a report from the Sunday People today, as cited by HITC, the Magpies have expressed an interest in the Republic of Ireland international, who is likely to leave Goodison Park in this window.
Everton are keen to recoup as much money as they can from his sale, though, and are said to be demanding a huge fee of £25m. This price is one that could put Rafa Benitez off the potential transfer, and he’ll certainly be keen to lower their asking price if he does go ahead and approach the Toffees.
McCarthy doesn’t look to be in with all that much of a chance of consistent, first-team football under Ronald Koeman this season. The Dutchman has significantly bolstered Everton’s midfield options since his arrival, and this could spell bad news for McCarthy.
Newcastle are claimed to value McCarthy at around £15m.
