Rafa Benitez tracked Jacob Murphy’s brother Josh

According to the Mail Online, Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has revealed that he tracked recent signing Jacob Murphy’s brother Josh as well as Jacob.

Jacob Murphy has joined newly promoted Newcastle for £12m from Norwich today, subsequently leaving his brother, Josh, behind and Carrow Road but Benitez did track Josh.

He scouted both last season and came to the conclusion that Jacob was the best fit for The Magpies over the two brothers.

Benitez said “We were here in Ireland last year and we were talking about Jacob’s brother.

“We liked his brother and we spoke about him. I was following both of them – but I think we have signed the right one, the one I wanted.

“I have received a lot of information about both, and it was positive about both of them. But in this case we wanted the type of player (Jacob is) and were happy with that.”

Both of their parents are Newcastle fans so the two brothers have been brought up supporting the North East side despite living in London. Jacob told Norwich last week that he wants to move to St James’ Park after hearing about interest from them.
