# Newcastle set to complete O’Connor deal

Newcastle are set to complete the signing of Stefan O’Connor on a free transfer after his release from Arsenal.

According to [ESPN](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/newcastle-united/story/3153675/newcastle-agree-deal-with-former-arsenal-defender-stefan-oconnor-sources), O’Connor has agreed to sign for Newcastle after leaving the Gunners earlier this month.

O’Connor’s contract came to an end with Arsenal and he was not offered a new deal with the club.

This has allowed Newcastle to swoop in and agree a deal to sign the defender on a two-year deal.

The report claims that O’Connor is already training with Newcastle for pre-season ahead of the official announcement that he has signed for the club.

The 20-year-old has had two spells out on loan in his career so far, one to York City and one to MVV Maastricht.

However, he only made eight appearances (four each) combined for the two clubs during his time there.

He now joins Newcastle looking to make the next step in his career.
