Reports in Portugal today are suggesting that Newcastle have had a club-record bid to sign Bas Dost rejected by Sporting CP.
The Magpies appear to be on the lookout for several reinforcements this summer, with a striker on Rafa Benitez’s wishlist.
According to a report from the printed edition of Portuguese news outlet Jornal de Notícias (h/t Sport Witness), Newcastle lodged a huge €40m offer for Dost.

It’s claimed in the report that the bid was swiftly declined from the Liga NOS club, with them adamant that Dost will not leave the club unless the full extent of his €60m release clause is met.
The report appears to be somewhat far-fetched given the sheer amount Newcastle are stated to offer, but Dost is a proven goal scorer and enjoyed a quite incredible season for Sporting last term.
The Netherlands international netted on 37 occasions and is sure to have attracted interest for this summer’s transfer window.
