Newcastle are reportedly prepared to do battle with Bournemouth as they look to sign Lewis Holtby.
According to a report from the Mirror today, the Magpies are keen to bring the German back to the Premier League as they hope to bolster their midfield options.
It’s claimed in the report that Holtby could be available for a fee as low as £5m; a price that is certainly affordable for Rafa Benitez’s side.
The Hamburg man did see out a relatively long tenure in English football with Tottenham Hotspur, but failed to make a genuine impact.
At just 26, Holtby undoubtedly has time on his side and is sure to be keen on putting things right for himself in English football.
However, if Newcastle are to recruit the versatile midfielder, they will need to fend off Bournemouth to sign him. Both clubs are likely to strengthen their options in the middle this summer.
