Newcastle just €5m away from midfielder’s valuation

Reports in Portugal today have suggested that Andreas Samaris’ move from Benfica to Newcastle is edging closer.

The Greek international has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a while now, with both the Magpies and bitter rivals Sunderland being touted with moves.

However, it’s looking increasingly likely that the top flight side are in pole position to land the midfielder, and the two parties are not far away in terms of their valuation of the midfielder.

According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today, as covered in a report from Sport Witness, the deal is ‘in progress’ and Newcastle need to cough up just €5m more to land Samaris.

It’s stated that Rafa Benitez’s side have lodged a €15m bid to sign the central midfielder, but Benfica currently value him a little bit higher than that, at €20m.

Benitez could be looking to add to his midfield this summer, and Samaris appears to be a genuine target.
