Newcastle’s interest in Jay Rodriguez has been well reported over the last few months, but it looks as though West Brom are in pole position to land the Southampton man.
According to Sky Sports, the Baggies have jumped ahead in the race to sign the out of favour striker this summer, which could spell the end of Newcastle’s interest.

Rodriguez is all but set for a departure from St Mary’s this summer having inconsistently featured last season, and it appears as though a move back up north is attractive for the player.
However, with West Brom keen to land Rodriguez for a fee of around £12m, it looks as though they are the emerging front-runners.
Saints are claimed by reports to be keen on taking £15m from the sale of Rodriguez, but it’s unlikely that such a price will be coughed up for a player who failed to impose himself last season.
Newcastle may need to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements.
