# Newcastle ready to move for Lyon midfielder

Newcastle are reportedly lining up a move to sign Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons.

Reports in France have claimed that the Magpies are ready to go toe to toe with a number of Italian clubs in an attempt to land the accomplished defensive midfielder.

Several Lyon players have been linked with moves away from the club in recent times and one that is sure to be in demand is Gonalons, who has proven to be a reliable and consistent asset for a number of years now.

Newcastle could be looking to add experience and quality to their midfield options this summer and Gonalons would almost certainly provide this.

However, signing the Frenchman wouldn’t be easy. Established European clubs such as AC Milan, Lazio and Marseille are cited with interest and it’d take some doing to lure Gonalons to St James’ Park.
